TCOPA

TCOPA Update: Spring 2007

It has been about 2 years since the exciting rebirth of the Texas Chapter of Orthopedic Physician’s Assistants.  Since June 2005, Texas has been very active.  We are working with the state legislature for possibilities of OPA-C recognition.  As we all know, this can be very challenging.  We are also finding new ways to seek reimbursement for our services.

To date we have put together 42.5 NBCOPA accredited CMEs to Texas region Orthopedic Professionals.  TCOPA is currently planning two more courses for 2007.  All but 11 hours were free to TCOPA members.  We have covered a vast number of topics to include trauma, arthroscopy, joint replacements, casting, bracing and billing.

TCOPA is the only organized and active state chapter for OPA-Cs and other orthopedic allied health professionals.  We currently have members from four other states beside Texas.  We are also the only state with a members website for update to date information sharing specific to our local region.  Information sharing has been the key to our success.  TCOPA is the first and only chapter to have a booth at the ASOPA national meeting.

There is a lot of interest in our profession. Doctors, Administrators, Medical Billing and Clinic Managers from all regions of the United States have contacted TCOPA.   We have tried to give them the most up-to-date information and promote an OPA-Cs role in the whole orthopedic patient.

The first term of the new TCOPA Board is near its’ end and we are very excited about the road ahead and plan to promote our profession at every opportunity.  We also look forward to working closer with our national association in its efforts to advance our profession.  If you would like more information about Texas Chapter of Orthopedic Physician’s Assistants, please visit www.tcopa.org.
